In this course, we'll learn how to create a 3D illustration for use on a magazine cover. Over the course of these videos we will learn how to efficiently model by only modeling what we need and how to reuse basic base meshes as starting points. Then we will look at how to efficiently UV map, looking at techniques to quickly produce distortion free UVs. Then using Ambient Occlusion bakes as starting points for our textures we will look at a efficient and repeatable texturing process. We will then look at how to pose our characters, setup shaders to replicate advanced effects such as refraction and sub-surface scattering, before setting up render passes and layers for compositing. Finally we will bring it all together in Photoshop using our layers to composite and adjust our image before looking at some final techniques to complete our 3D Illustration.

OneLight Photography Workshop Complete Course

format AVI | English | over 4 hours | 1.29 Gb
In the nearly 4 hour long set of DVD's I go over philosophy, gear, exposure, modifiers, application of it all, how I compose images, what I'm looking for in a photo, what I like, what I don't like, how things go really well, how things start to suck very quickly, how to interact with clients, how to get kicked out of not just one location but two locations, and, most importantly, how to deal with a group of drunk girls out on the street.

Disc One include:
1. Opening Thoughts
2. Exposure Control
3. Gear (lights, stands, triggers, etc.)
4. Modifiers (Umbrellas, soft boxes, grids, etc.)
5. Indoor shoot and then 2 location shoots with the same client.

Disc Two include:
I pick up the pace on Disc Two and we do a lot of shooting. You'll follow me on shoots with 3 individuals and one band. I'm more in "shooting" mode than "teaching" mode on this disc but I am still talking through the process of what I'm looking for in the final photo, how I'm going to get there, what type of light and modifier I need to get the job done, and how to work with situations when things just aren't perfect. I end the DVD with some information about my workflow in Lightroom. I'm not a "workflow" teacher. I have a system that works for me and I'm always improving it. Finally, the montage and credits are pretty cool.

Creature Head Texture Look Dev with Alex Alvarez

In this tutorial Alex will show his techniques for designing the texture style for a creature head. Using a new model made for this tutorial based on a personal sketch, the creature's skin detailing and style is designed in both 2D and 3D. With a 2D grayscale drawing, little information exists for how the creature would look once textured. Using Photoshop we can quickly develop a variety of looks which can be photo-realistically previewed in both Photoshop and Maya.

By layering specular, reflection and ambient occlusion passes out of Maya, the textures can be designed photorealistically in Photoshop while being projected onto the surface and rendered from different angles in 3D. This approach allows a texture artist to show a supervisor various approaches to a creature's texture design in little time. Once a look is approved, this technique makes the process of developing the final textures quick and straight forward.

Photorealistic Texture Painting
An Introduction with Justin Holt

In this introduction to photorealistic texture painting, Justin Holt discusses how a trained eye for detail and keen sense of observation are essential attributes to being a successful texture painter in the the feature film industry.
Using BodyPaint and Photoshop, Justin will demonstrate some of his easy to follow techniques and tricks of the trade in order to paint proper color, bump, displacement, specular and opacity maps. But more importantly, Justin will go through essential principles to maintaining a non-destructive workflow while painting textures to ensure a maximum amount of control and flexibility for any revisions and changes that may be requested after the maps are completed in a production environment.
Additionally, Justin will complete the lecture with a quick run through in Modo to show how to quickly and easily generate polished renders that showcase all of the finely tuned texture work.
