This video was based on questions asked on the user forum as well as inquisitive emails from artists around the world. Tracking and Match Moving has been around for quite some time, however information on these topics have been limited. With this 2.5 hour video, we solve the mystery that is match moving, tracking and analyzing. With several projects based on popular film and tv concepts, this video will surely help you become a match moving pro. Learn how to negotiate concepts in fusion like data solving, and preparing your footage for data capture. There are 6 main projects to solve in these lessons. Each project focuses on a typical tracking type problem. Learn how to asses the problems like a pro, while learning hybrid crossover solutions that may tie unrelated projects together. There are often cases where 4 point, 2 point and planar tracks collide in what shot. Make sure to watch the work flow so you can manage multiple systems in a single shot solution.

4 Point Tracks
The most basic of match move tracks could be considered the corner positioner module of the fusion tracker. This is the most efficient way to do Image Replacements in a compositing package. The first project is based on the very popular Harry Potter movies, in which the viewer will replace a series of paintings on the wall. All of these paintings are in the shot frame at all times, and all of the paintings have 4 corners to track. Learn how to integrate new images in place of the old. Later you can swap your own videos for animated paintings with the high definition footage included on this video. - Keywords: Eyeon Fusion, Fusion 5.3, cmiVFX, Fusion Generation

Isolation and Recreation of Highlights and Reflections
In the real world images have lighting, specularity, reflection and texture. Learn how to extract these natural phenomenon and use them as separate passes to combine with new imagery. Many of these concepts are taken from software that cost many times more than fusion. With that knowledge we can simulate the look and feel of proper image restoration. Color Correction is discussed in relationship to tracking these shots specifically. Advanced color correcting techniques will debut on another video set.
2 Point Tracks
Many times we need to track an image replacement that leaves the frame or view. No data exists outside of the frame so it cant be tracked. Learn how to solve this tricky problem with techniques developed specifically for this situation. Manipulation of rotoshapes are discussed as part of this project while keeping the core focus of the project on point based tracking. There are plenty of images to use to sample this tutorial. As always the source footage is based in High Definition 720p or higher so that you the viewer can have the least amount of problems while learning how to track image based data.
Match Moves and Masks
Several popular film projects use tracking as a way to cut holes in the footage with said tracking data. Learn how to cut a window out of a painting and make its background track with or without perspective. Simulation of depth of field can be applied here. Trainer references Narnia.

Cylindrical Distortions
Fusions current set of match moving tools does not permit curvature of cylindrical or spherical objects. In the past, CG departments would have to build a model of the object and render out 3d frames to match. We take a pre rendered liquor bottle WITH OUT a label, and show you how to restore it as the bottle rotates! Now you can do the impossible with out the need of the CG department.
Practical Applications
This fun project will help change the way we use weapons as props. Learn a new secret in filming illegal fire arms in any country LEGALLY. That is correct, find out resources to replica weapons that can be use with out the use of permits. We will show you how to add muzzle flair and shell casings to a firing replica Desert Eagle hand Gun. NOTE: The original footage shows the weapon fire, but has no muzzle flair or bullet casings. Tracking the weapon and building a fusion particle system to recreate this tiny explosion will be covered in detail. Both the particle system and the High Definition footage of the Desert Eagle are on the video.

Fusion 3D Compositing
We built this video to show you the WHOLE TRUTH about compositing. When working in a production pipeline, often source materials are coming from multiple applications and even multiple FX houses. Learn to bridge all the gaps in your workflow with file translations from Cinema 4D, Maya, Boujou, PFTrack and Fusion 5x. See how all the products integrate quite well with each other, and allow you to get the results you need. We designed it this way to show you the worst case scenario, and how its not that bad after all. We have all the final footage for the Fusion composites in the download area. If you have any of the other apps, we also included there working files for those as well.Of course we include all of the courseware for this video, but that would be robbing you of the true production experience. We show you how to build the materials used on this video as well! Not only that but we include the work files of all the applications used in this video. This part of the video covers setting up background plates to be rendered in global illumination within the cinema 4d interface. We include BOTH the rendered files AND the C4D docs as well. All in all, this is the most comprehensive video training for Fusion and its 3D compositing system
Lately there has been great debate amongst 3d match moving artists. Boujou or PFTrack? Well, decide for yourselves! We show you how to use both! In this part of the video, we track the footage created by our renderings to compare the actual camera animation from Cinema 4D AND the data extracted from PFTrack. We'll use the ground as the origin plane and save this data in varied formats, so that we can created 3d rain elements in maya to match the footage! - Keywords: Eyeon Fusion, Fusion 5.3, cmiVFX, Fusion Generation

Boujou
We continue on this 3d tracking adventure with Boujou. We show you how to change the plane of orientation to make the top of the skyscraper the ground plane. We export this data out so that we can match move a 3D billboard inside of maya to match up in Fusion! Learn how to track and export the data you will need at your production facility! Compare the two trackers and decide what best fits your needs.

Matchmove Completion In Maya
Before we get to Fusion, we'll make a 3d billboard in Maya and match move it to the city background plate using the tracked data from Boujou. Learn how to create render layer passes in Maya so you can a lot of freedom in your 3d composite within Fusion. Create Color Passes, And Shadow Passes while adding a shadow catcher for the top of the main building.

We take the PFTrack 3d data, and use it to guide and line up our 3d particle rain inside of Maya's dynamic module. Learn how to quickly generate a simple rain effect for our 3d composite within Fusion.

Well, we tracked all the data in Boujou and PFTrack. Use this method to cut out the middle phase of rendering. Create your own billboard and match it in 3d right inside of Fusion. Just import your 3d point cloud and camera data directly into the Fusion Multiplane Node.
Nebula
We discuss the footage created from our 3D compositing Photoshop video and how to break it down within the Fusion interface. Import the data as grouped layers from a single Photoshop Document. Create 3D parallax with the footage from the previous step. Learn to go from 2d to 3d and make it believable. Learn about 3D camera animations in both X and Z while comparing the results.

Planet Scene
Well, you spent all that time creating your own star field and planets. Lets use them to create a "Distant Star Pan Style Shot". Use the existing materials from the first video to create a 3D flyby within Fusion. These 3D techniques add lots of power to your shot. Define distance and parallax with simple moves and layering orders. (Footage Included)

3D Room
This is where I dive right into the 3d environment, and treat it like Maya or XSI. I'll show you how to construct a 3D room with primitives and materials to drive the final shot. After I show you how to build the 3d room with the proper networks of merges and data, I assemble an actual shot for a movie style commercial. I also explain the difference between OpenGL rendering and Software Render, PLUS how to manage you shadow maps for getting the best in Fusion 5 AND MUCH MORE...

Fusion 3D Matte Paintings
3D Matte Painting Extractions are a now common process in the visual effects industry. The technique for matte paintings and 3d extraction have been around for years, but normally found in a 3d animation package like Maya, XSI, or Cinema 4D. Since version 5.0 of Eyeon's Fusion compositing application, 3d tools have been available to generate 3d style composites. With the latest release of Fusion, additional tools have been introduced in order to assist in the workflow of using 3d projections utilities such as the "Projector" and "Camera". As usual, we show several different methods for achieving your goals so that you can apply your learning to your own personal projects. We included a 2k matte painting with a solid plate and in 20 different layers to assist you with the time it takes to prepare your materials for the composites. There is no doubt about it, we created the perfect environment and digital assets to get you into this project no matter what path you decide. We include a project file with the new PAW projection tool in 5.3, but heavily rely on the traditional tools inside of Fusion with the other variations.
Choosing The Right Path
For the last few years, there has been a popular "Buzz Word" going around the FX industry. FBX, or FilmBox file format, is a common 3d geometry format used by most of the popular 3D animation and Compositing software applications. With the advent of proper 3d tools inside of Fusion, artist's have the ability to import modeled geometry and camera data from there 3D animation programs. This allows for congruent camera animations and projection mapping inside of fusion while allowing for the ability of additional compositing and color correction at this level of the production pipeline. Learn how to decipher when FBX is the right option for your composite. - Keywords: Eyeon Fusion, Fusion 5.3, cmiVFX, Fusion Generation
Sneak Peak
We allow you to take a brief look at all your options with 3D compositing before we mix a hybrid of these methodologies in the final composite of this matte painting series. Preplan your attack based on this initial demonstration.

Projecting Your Anger
Learn how to cope with textures that were not designed for projections. Shallow angles, deep geometry, and texture distortion will nearly always propose a problem for you unless you know the proper tricks. We show you a new way to "Get Around" these types of roadblocks in your workflow, and maintain a better camera path render then traditional FBX import methods.
Speeding your Workflow
When you work with dozens of high resolution textures containing alphas, sometimes things can slow down a bit. We show you some super easy tricks that will save you a lot of time during a scene setup and help optimize potential render times.
Deformers for Repairs
Fusion's rich 3D toolset now contains 3D geometry deformers. When working with projections, and while trying to maintain proper texture distortion, you might find yourself in need of procedural distortion to get the look you need from the render camera. We show you how to easily add deformers to help bring the odd angle of a 2.5D texture to a reasonable 3D surface texture.

Secondary Animation
Rarely do you see a tree that does not have leaves falling from it at some point. We show you how to add falling leaves in your 3D scene as well as several different methods for creating cloud movement. When it comes for the final look, we let you decide what is best for you by giving you access to a variety of methods used in digital compositing. We know that each job is different, and there is not always a right or wrong way to do the job. With the proper instruction, you will be able to decide for yourself.

The Desolate Iceberg
Sometimes in life we shoot a location that isn't quite what we need. However, with the power of modern technology we have the option to sculpt the landscape into what we want. This project is a fine example of taking and interesting location to a higher level. We started with a still from an Antarctic iceberg plain, and added a sky replacement, 3d rendered volumetric clouds, fluid dynamic water and particle based mist effects. View the sample movie to see more of this projects details. What isn't shown here is the additional branch of the project showing a snowy land mass instead of an icy ocean environment. Both scenes are on the video.

Erupting Volcano
Pictures speak louder than words, and in this case the proverb is true. Take a still photo of this volcano, and add a little CG magic to create a brilliant background plate for the most demanding film or tv projects. We use maya and cinema 4d particles to create dynamic clouds, billowing smoke and major fireballs. We put it all together in the Fusion user interface, and achieve great results in a considerably short amount of time. Be sure to watch the sample movie below.
Blue Sky Against Trees: This last project was designed to show keying techniques in sky removals. Learn how to use the Keyer to removal tonal values in the sky to create a matte for your footage. cmiVFX - Fusion Advanced Particle Tactics

cmiVFX - Fusion Advanced Particle Tactics
cmiVFX - Fusion Advanced Particle Tactics | project files | .mov | 2.03Gb

Finally, we can all begin to take compositing to the next level. With the advent of Fusion 5, we as compositors are no longer limited to working with many different applications to achieve a single goal. We will take you through several real world projects from beginning to end focusing on the 3D particle system within Fusion 5 as well as utilizing the new 3d compositing environment. This video is worth its weight in gold, especially if you are versed in several applications and are tired of going back and forth doing renders and passing them multiple times just to find out you need to render them again in 3d before bringing them back to the co positing phase. Many Shake users will migrate from Shake to Fusion 5 once they realize the cost benefit and performance difference between the two applications. You can still use your knowledge of Shake's node tree to help you in Fusion. We will show Fusion migratory tips and tricks to make the transition easy.

Palace Fountain
This project starts off with a high definition format still photograph with no animation. Learn how to remove the existing fountain artifacts and restore background elements that were never there. Recreate a new fountain in any desired style with the Fusion 3D Particles System and learn how to layer and manipulate transforms in the new 3d compositing environment in Fu5. We will also do a 3D sky replacement using the new 3d shapes node and a image projection to help preserve parallax in the sky. Animate the scene with the new 3d camera and add finishing touches. Play around with motion blur on the particles to recreate the original style photograph or leave the particles with more texture to create more interesting effects. To see a sample final shot, view the move below.
Road Flair
This lesson uses this still image to the left as general reference. We create the whole Road flair effect fro scratch using Fusion 5's robust particle tools as well as its 3d compositing environment. Change various elements of this project to go from road flairs to birthday type candle effects. This project is a must for broadcast designers as well as previous users of combustion's particle illusion. With these particles you can rotate the whole scene in real 3d with a 3d camera node! I bet Shake users reading this are starting to wonder why they aren't using Fusion yet, don't you think? Take a look at the sample video below.
Champagne Bubbles
If your in broadcasting, you will run into this one day. This tutorial takes you through image restoration of a single photograph and teaches you how to add your own bubble within the newly layered image. For fun change the bubbles to logos, or better yet, animate a camera zoom to reveal close up objects in your bubbles. Be sure to watch the sample movie below.

Tornados and Toilet Bowls
This project is probably geared towards those in the horror movie business. Sometimes you need to add blood, mucus, slime, vomit whatever, into a bathroom scene. Here is one way to get water in the bowl of a old out of order bathroom. Click below to watch a sample.
Ring Blast Explosions
I built this tutorial to extend the particles cookbook that this video rapidly became Learn how to build, animate, and render this very popular space explosion effect.

Solar effects
Basically, when i started this particles video, I thought that solving the complex things we take for granted would be the way to go. This tutorial was born from the need to do effects like Sun, or other planetary objects, BUT then progressed into cool effects like the one title sequence from THE RING and THE RING 2. Here is a quick movie sample with no blur on the particles at all.

Fireworks
This section of the video focuses on a typical fireworks setup. You can edit the included source to have multiple styles of colors and explosions. Use them in your productions after you learn how they are constructed.

Liquid Effects
Mostly a last minute decision on my part, this tutorial was designed to teach you how to use other tools outside of the particle suite to get certain designed styles. In this case, water or heavy liquids was the destination. Check out the sample.
